I love the first of the month, especially when it's on a Sunday or a Monday. I rip last month's page off of my big desk calendar and sigh in contentment at the fresh month ahead, just waiting for me to do amazing things with it.
My name is Laura McQuade, and I'm on a personal mission to become my absolute best self - and to help you become your best self as well.
"Best" is a pretty subjective term. That's part of why I love "best," because "best" means something different to each person.
For me "best" means a lot of things. It means being the kind of wife my husband feels blessed to be married to, the kind of wife who always encourages, who is patient and kind and adventurous, the kind of wife that is exactly the kind of wife he needs to help him reach his highest aspirations and wildest goals. The kind of wife Lemuel's mother talked about in the Bible when she told him to find "A wife of noble character."
It means being an outstanding mom (in the future) who chases the kids around and feeds them healthy food and inspires them to greatness, the kind of mom who jogs and makes things from scratch and laughs a lot and takes tons of pictures. Most importantly, the kind of mom whose adult children can look back with a smile and say "Yeah, my mom was pretty awesome, she's a big part of why I'm so successful in life."
It means being a great friend. The kind of friend you can count on, the kind of friend you want to be around, the one who always welcomes and encourages you, the one who always has a smile and an adventure and a seat at the table just for you.
It means being a writer, a business owner, a person who is full to bursting with life and energy. It means hiking up mountains and swimming in oceans and just plain having fun.
For me, "best" means a lot of things, and they all start with my health. I won't be able to chase my kids around the playground if my physical health isn't in a good place, and I won't be able to be encouraging and loving toward my husband if my mind is full of turmoil and negativity, and I won't be able to go have all the adventures I want to have if I don't have the money for it. I can't teach my kids about eating healthy, or having a good relationship with God, or being great human beings if I don't live healthy and stay connected with God and always strive to be my best.
Whatever "best" means to you, there's a starting point. There's something that can hold you back. And maybe that something is holding you back right now, but it doesn't have to hold you back forever. You can overcome it.
We were not created for mediocrity. The Bible says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made - some translations call us "God's greatest masterpiece, forged with great care and attention to detail." You are you because there is something truly amazing you were created to be able to do! We are each more valuable than entire rooms stuffed to the brim with the rarest gems and jewels in the world. Yet so many of us (myself included!) have wasted huge portions of our lives just sitting on the couch and doing nothing.
I'd like to challenge you today to make a very important decision. This is a decision that has the potential to change your entire life, to alter the course of your destiny. I'd like to challenge you to decide that you are created for greatness beyond what you can even imagine, and you're going to start acting like that's true.
Can you do that? Will you?
Today, right now, make that decision. Then act on it. Phone a friend! Get together with them for some companionship time (remember, laughter is like medicine for your soul) and ask them to join you and help support and encourage you in your journey to become your best.Whatever your story up to this point, today is your new beginning. I'm so excited for you!
